As the mother of a kindergartner in the public school system, I fully support #redfored and stand behind Arizona teachers! But I also understand the upcoming teacher walk-out is bringing stress to some parents about what to do with their kids doing the school closures.

I’ve found some great places offering their services in support of #redfored where parents can drop off their kids for a day of fun in a safe environment.

AZ On the Rocks 

Local rock climbing gym AZ on the Rocks in Scottsdale is stepping up to host pop-up day camps for kids during the District Walk Outs. The day camps at AZR will begin on April 26 and run as a long as the walk outs continue.

The special day camp is offered for 1st to 8th graders. It’s from 7:45AM to 3:15PM and the cost is $50 per kid. Attendees must bring their own packed lunch and waivers are required to be filled out by the parents. Space is limited. To sign up now, visit www.azontherocks.com

Arizona Science Center

Arizona Science Center is offering full-day camp programming for kindergarten through 5th-grade students from 9am -4pm, Monday through Friday for the duration of the teacher walkout. Early drop off is available starting at 7:30 a.m. and late pick up available until 6 p.m. for $15/day per child.

Registration for Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27 is now open. If needed, registration for the week of April 30 will open Friday, April 27.

Free educator opportunities are also available to Arizona teachers Monday through Friday during the walkout. These two-hour training sessions have a maximum capacity of 30 teachers each and will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

In addition, throughout the walkout, every child (3-17) who visits the Science Center will receive a free ticket to the Irene P. Flinn Giant Screen Theater with purchase of general admission.

More Than Modeling

More Than Modeling is offering FREE days of fun where children will learn life skills, such as etiquette, fitness and nutrition while having fun in a safe environment. There is NO charge for the service but voluntary donations can be made at drop-off. All donations made with go to the non-profit organization ‘Not My Kid. Donations appreciated but not required to attend.

Hours available for this free service will be from 7:30am until 5:30pm.
There are 25 spots available.

Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley

Starting on Thursday, April 26th, Clubs will open 7am to 6pm, Monday through Friday, to serve the needs of your family by providing a safe and fun place during the day. The cost is $20 per day per youth. New members will also incur a $30 Annual Membership Fee. Boys and Girls Club of the East Valley is working with local school districts to provide meals.

Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix

Boys & Girls Club of Metro Phoenix will open their locations for “Day Camp” open to families during the teacher walk-out. Space is limited, please call your local branch for more information or BGCMP Program Services Center at 602-954-8182.

Camps will be held every day during the walk-out from 8am – 6pm. The cost is free for current members and $20 for non-members.
Every club will serve lunch and snacks.

Arizona Animal Welfare League

The Arizona Animal Welfare League wants parents to know they can drop kids (1st-8th grade) off at its animal shelter’s education center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (before and after care available) for a day camp filled with enriching activities. The students will participate in hands-on animal presentations, make arts and crafts for shelter animals and listen to guest speakers who will talk about animal welfare and animal-related careers. The cost is $55 per student ($10 for before- and after-care). To register: Call 602-273-6852 x122

Impact Gymnastics

Impact Gymnastics is offering half and full day camps during the teacher walk-out. Cost is $50 for half day (8am-12pm) and $80 for full day (8am-3pm). Activities include warm-up, gymnastics, rotation group games, team building and more. Morning snack provided but campers must bring their own lunch. Register by calling (602) 870-7574

Stage Dreams Youth Theater

SDYT supports teachers and families during the #RedforEd walk-out. Your children can come sing, dance and act in a safe environment while you are at work. We will be creating songs and skits in appreciation for all our teachers do. Then we will put them up on our YouTube channel to support #RedforEd.

Thanks to the generosity of The Way Fellowship Church who is donating their space for us to use, we are now able to provide lunch and snacks for your children for this camp. Register soon to secure a spot. Space is limited! Grades K-12 welcome. Cost is $50 per student/per day. $80 if you sign up for both days (April 26, 27).  Camp will run from 8am-3pm.  After-Care is  available from 3-6pm for $15 per day. This camp will be held at The Way Fellowship Church – 8542 W Deer Valley Rd. Arizona All-Stars

Sports and Activity Walk Out Day Camp. This camp runs from 6am – 6pm, drop in anytime for only $30 a day! Students must bring a lunch or can purchase from Firehouse subs for only $6. Snacks, water and gatorade available. Camp will be held at 1746 W. Ruby Dr. Suite 102, Tempe, 85284 Registration here.

Engineering for Kids – Metro Phoenix

Engineering for Kids is offering STEM day camps Thursday (April 26) and Friday (April 27) during the walkout across 3 different partnership locations across the Valley.

  • SOS STEM Camps will be held at Kids That Rip (McKellips & Gilbert)
  • Sky Zone Peoria (Peoria, AZ)
  • Urban Air Adventure Park (Ahwatukee)

Coyote Camp at The Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort

Coyote Camp is available to resort guests and locals alike! A perfect option during the #RedforEd teacher walk-out. The camp is available in half-day sessions, full day sessions and evening sessions. Each day of Coyote Camp centers upon a specific theme like “Desert Friends” and “Arizona Day.” Every activity is geared towards educating the children on Arizona’s colorful Western folklore, culture and geography. The kiddos can try their hand at gold panning, arrowhead hunting, tepee building, and so much more. Children receive a Coyote Camp t-shirt on their first full day, or a t-shirt can be purchased, for your little one so they never forget the amazing times they had at the resort.
