In Dining Out, Family Time

Last week I posted about the Grow A Reader, a virtual book drive benefiting  Southwest Human Development and will put books into the hands of underprivileged children.

Several valley eateries have jumped on board for this noble cause, including Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant. Yesterday I did my part by visiting Garcia’s and indulging in the Pollo Fundido, a deep fried tortilla stuffed with shredded seasoned chicken, topped with jalapeño cream cheese and smothered in melted cheddar cheese. It’s sinful, delicious gluttony at it’s best but I felt guilt-free as I devoured every bite because a portion of the proceeds from that dish goes to the Grow A Reader program.

That’s right – $1 from every Pollo Fundido devoured at all Valley Garcia’s locations during the month of May will help underprivileged children get the books that are so valuable to their lifetime success!

You will also find the Grow a Reader flower pots at Garcia’s. Simply pick a flower from the pot, take it home and purchase books online that will go to the program. Easy and delicious. Garcia’s will even send you a bounce back coupon to use for a discount on a future visit.

There are still a few more days left to support the Grow A Reader virtual book drive! Visit a Garcia’s near you! Or visit my friend, Mandy’s website for more details on Grow a Reader and see what other restaurants are helping to grow readers!

Pick a Flower. Buy a Book. Grow A Reader. Today!!!
