In Dining Out

Something exciting happened in Carefree, and that something is Keeler’s Neighborhood Steakhouse, a fine dining eatery in a comfortable, unpretentious environment.

Keeler’s comes to us from the family that owns Liberty Station, and if you have ever been there than you know Keeler’s is destined to be awesome.

And it doesn’t disappoint. The food is phenomenal, the staff is friendly and the cocktails are creative and strong – you can’t expect anything less from the Keeler family.

The menu boasts a variety of options from salads, sandwiches, seafood and signature chops and steaks. Walking into the place is heavenly, meaty aromas wafting and enticing. You will be drooling even before you make it to your table.

I recently visited for a media tasting and every bite was delightfully delicious.

The starters got the evening off right! Everyone at the table raved about the Steak Tartar. Tender morsels of  filet mignon are mixed with capers and garlic oil crowned with a golden egg yolk and served with crisp toast points. It’s a fancy appetizer but everyone tossed their manners aside for the last tasty bite.

The Crab Cakes were also a hit. Heavy on the crab with minimal filler which let the sweet flavor of the jumbo lump crab shine through. The cakes had a slightly crispy exterior with a tender, flaky crabby interior. They were absolutely delicious.

My favorite starter of the evening was the Beefsteak Tomato and Mozzarella Salad. Beautifully colored and super sweet tomatoes simply seasoned with salt and pepper, tossed with pieces of creamy mozzarella, balsamic and basil. It was light, refreshing and so satisfying.

Every entree was equally delicious! I loved the Seafood Pasta. It was a huge portion of linguine with shrimp, scallops, mussels in a decadent mushroom cream sauce. It was hearty, rich and comforting.

But when you’re at a steakhouse it would be criminal not to order a steak. From the Keeler Baseball Cut to Prime Rib and every cut in between Keeler’s knows how to treat beef.

Our steak was huge, cooked to a perfect medium rare. Seasoned with salt and pepper and so tender and juicy. It was exactly how a good steak should taste, beefy and savory, tender and flavorful. Perfection.

Steakhouses have to have great sides and Keeler’s is nailing it on the front too. We samples the creamiest cheddar mashed potatoes, a loaded baked potato, brussels sprouts and mac and cheese but their list of sides goes on and on! Everything was fantastic.

The upscale, yet approachable menu and relaxed vibe of Keeler’s Neighborhood Steakhouse sets it apart from pretty much every fine dining establishment in town. It is a lovely and welcomed addition to Carefree and to the Valley as a whole. It’s definitely a dining destination that should be on your radar for a visit.

Keeler’s Neighborhood Steakhouse is located in the Historic Spanish Village at 7212 East Ho Hum Road, Carefree, AZ. Call (602) 374-4784 for reservations.
