CitySkate at CityScape in downtown Phoenix is a winter wonderland. A decked out tree beckons revelers to the ice. The festive feel got the best of me and despite the fact that gravity has never been kind to me, I strapped on a pair of skates, determined to hit the ice with my 5 year-old daughter.

That is as far as I got; but a wimpy chicken of a mom did not stop Jacquelyn. She wobbled her way to the rink without me and spent the two hours that followed laughing and loving every minute of the winter fun.

With the help of the “trainer” skates she took to the ice like a natural, unsteady at first but quickly gaining confidence. Everyone there was happy to lend a hand to steady her if she lost her balance.

She had so much fun we invited friends to join us again a few days later. Ice skating was a new and exciting experience for her and we will definitely make a family tradition of visiting CitySkate during her winter break from school. Maybe next year I will give it another try and actually make it to the ice, if my little one can do it, so can I! (who am I kidding? She can already do plenty that I can’t).

CitySkate at CityScape is running through this Sunday,  January 7th, 2018. Admission is $15 and includes skate rentals. Express passes are available for $30. Skate sessions are broken up into three sessions 3-5pm; 5:30-7:30pm and 8-11pm.

CitySkate is located at 1 Washington St. Phoenix, AZ 85004.
