I’ve never been beer’s biggest fan, usually choosing a cocktail or wine over suds, but I appreciate a great food and if beer enhances a culinary experience, count me in!
The folks at SanTan Brewing Company are doing just that, turning your meal into an experience you will want to return for again and again, with their in-house brewed beers, expansive menu and well trained staff.
I recently had the opportunity to taste my way through some menu items, ingenuously paired with some SanTan favorites and this brewery is making a believer out of me – beer goes with everything!
The evening started with StrataBlaster IPA, the clean malt taste was brightened with citrus notes and served as a good palate cleanser, whetting our whistles for the beer feast that was yet to come.
Our first course with the Power Salad paired with MoonJuice IPA. The salad was hearty, living up to its name with fresh spinach, quinoa, red onion, hominy black beans and sunflower seeds. The apricot, peach and tropical fruit flavors of the MoonJuice enhanced the orange chipotle vinaigrette on the salad, balancing the mustard notes in the dressing.
Next we moved on to the Pesto Chicken Pizza paired with HefeWeizen. This pizza was amazing. Vibrant basil pesto, grilled chicken, spinach, mushrooms and a three cheese blend piled atop a perfectly crisped crust. Pizza heaven complimented with fresh, light fruitiness of the Hefe. This was a crowd pleasing pairing.
My hands-down favorite of the night was the third course of Pork Enchiladas paired with Devil’s Ale. These enchiladas were more like taquitos in that the tortillas were fried and crispy. The pork inside was tender, flavorful and the green chile cream sauce on top had a mighty kick of heat that was enhanced and cooled with The Devil’s Ale, a crisp American pale ale. I cleaned my plate and emptied my glass with this one and can’t wait to visit SanTan Brewing Company to do it again.
We finished with a goblet of STBC’s seasonal Winter Warmer and freshly made ginger snap cookies. I had no idea beer and cookies were a thing, but they are here. It’s a thing loyal STBC patrons wait all year for and now I know why. The Winter Warmer is heavy and deep and speaks to the season with a punch of warming ginger and a touch of honeyed sweetness. Dunking those ginger cookies in the dark brew is encouraged and delicious! Who knew?!
A visit to SanTan Brewing Company is a delicious destination for all beer lovers and non beer lovers alike. The food is great and when paired with the right brew it becomes an unforgettable, yet approachable experience. My husband and I live on the other side of town and we’re already planning another trip to Chandler for the awesome grub and suds.
