Last week something really exciting happened in my town! The new American Girl Store opened up in Scottsdale. This is big news — because AMERICAN GIRL, people.
In my early 20s my friends and I planned a girl’s trip to Chicago. One of them dragged me into the American Girl flagship store at Water Tower Place on Michigan Avenue. I was 23 years old, I was in the Windy City to party, not to go to a doll store — but the moment I set foot into that mecca of vibrant pink my tune changed. I was hooked on the cuteness and the details, oh, all the precious details done in miniature, just for dolls. I was hooked, and I knew if I someday had a little girl, a pilgrimage to that store would be a must.
Well, that day has arrived! I have my sweet, sassy girl and now our town has an American Girl store too!
Miss Jax and I gussied up for a girl’s night and a tour of the new store during one of the days of the soft opening. It was mayhem and Jax was pretty grumpy during our tour (so sorry, Susan) because she couldn’t wait to be set free!
There were so many happy girls and mommies prancing about, beaming and taking it all in. Displays built at child’s height so they could touch and and play sidetracked my diva more than once, but it made my heart so happy to see her discovering how special and timeless American Girl is. She was in heaven, and I was right there with her. I could lose myself looking at all the displays, adorable, stylish clothing for dolls and girls alike, endless accessories and books, and all the beautiful dolls — Josefina is my favorite, I was a little bummed Jax passed her over when the time came to pick out her new doll (she went with a brown hair, brown eyed beauty from the AG Truly Me collection).
Josefina is part of AG’s BeForever collection, where each character has a story that explores their era in history. The clothing and accessories for the dolls in the BeForever collection are inspired by the era so they present great learning opportunities. The latest BeForever character is Maryellen, a character from the 1950s. Maryellen’s release coincided closely with the grand opening of the Scottsdale store so she will be exclusive there for awhile. How cool is that?! Another reason to get to the new Scottsdale store.
The American Girl Bistro is the stuff of little girl’s dreams (my dreams too), and I can’t wait to host one of Jax’s upcoming birthday parties there.
If you live anywhere in Arizona and have a daughter or granddaughter a trip to the American Girl store at the Scottsdale Quarter is a must. Even if you don’t buy a doll, you will love it because the store is so darn cute and almost like an interactive museum, plus a meal at the bistro would be well-worth the trip.
