In Family Time, Travel/Arizona

Arizona summers are brutal and best spent indoors, in the pool or at The Westin Kierland! Now through September 4, 2017, The Westin Kierland is offering a pretty cool package starting at only $149/night, including choice of a $50 per room/night dining credit or two free sessions on the Kierland FlowRider!

On Freezin’ Fridays the resort’s Adventure Pool, lazy river and 110-foot water slide transform into a family friendly “rave” with glowing lights, billowing fog and live entertainment. Fun team members host games and contests, snow flurries dazzle and the fun rolls on until 10pm.

On Saturdays the chilly fun continues with hundreds of pounds of ice dropped into the pool for the Polar Plunge (Jax LOVED this!), a cool DJ, games and activities and unlimited s’mores!

My little family recently enjoyed the Big Chill of The Westin Kierland’s offerings during a weekend stay. Check out the highlights!

Upon check-in we were greeted by a member of the Fun Team and the Westin Kierland’s summer mascot, a friendly penguin who doled out glow sticks to the little ones in preparation for the Friday night poolside Glow Party. Jacquelyn could hardly contain her excitement and I knew we were in for a very cool weekend.

Once in our room we wasted no time changing into our bathing suits and heading down to our cabana for dinner before the Glow Party started.

The Fiesta menu available on Friday evenings has a Mexican flare with tacos, fajitas, southwestern salads and chips and salsa and frozen cocktails are buy one get one free! We ordered a few different things to share and graze and everything was delicious, especially my frosty, bomb pop cocktail!

After endless trips down the slide, a dozen trips around the lazy river and a few games of Marco Polo with new friends we called it a night just as the Glow Party ended.

Back in our room Jax was once again over the moon to find a chocolate placed on her pillow courtesy of turndown service. I was just happy to take a relaxing, hot shower and sink into the plush bed after five hours at the pool.

On Saturday we slept in, had breakfast and headed back to the pool for our FlowRider session. I have to admit I was SUPER nervous and had anxiety all night after watching others doing it the night before. I was pretty certain Jax was going to chicken out (she did) and I really wanted to follow suit. Seriously, you have to sign a waiver and gravity and I have never been friends, so I was pretty darn scared. But with the encouraging cheers of my husband, daughter and bystanders, I somehow mustered up up the courage and I did it! I DID IT!! And I LOVED IT!

The FlowRider was so fun. I had three turns and wanted to go again and again but I could see Jax and the hubs wilting in the heat so I took my last turn and then we headed back to the slide and lazy river. I was seriously giddy and felt quite empowered after conquering the FlowRider (I was also a bit sore the next day, but a good sore, like the kind you get after a challenging workout).

I highly encourage booking a session on the FlowRider!

After the FlowRider fun we spent a few more hours at the pool, water slide and lazy river. Then it was back to our room for naps before dinner date night at Deseo and a pajama party for Jax (details on that coming soon, so stay tuned).

We checked out on Sunday after more pool fun. I can’t even begin to express how much my family enjoyed our cool summer staycation at The Westin Kierland, everything was perfect and laughter and enjoyment was plentiful. We hope to squeeze in another stay before the season ends and we will definitely return next summer – a family tradition has begun!

The Westin Kierland is a luxury resort property with a family friendly vibe. It’s the perfect destination to cool down, relax and escape the heat this summer. The summer specials can’t be beat and you’re family will love every fun-filled moment.
