Phoenix, Arizona isn’t first to come to mind when thinking of a summer vacation. The scorching temperatures are brutal…and sometimes dangerous. However, you may want to think again when planning your next summer vacay, because despite the heat, this desert city has lots of cool offerings – like the River Ranch water park at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort.
My family and I recently had the pleasure of enjoying an afternoon at River Ranch and we were very impressed. Set amidst the lush grounds of the luxurious Point Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, the River Ranch offers a four acre oasis of cool and refreshing fun.
After slathering on the sun block we hit the lazy river. Despite the blazing sun we found it very relaxing to float along at a leisurely pace, winding around the pools and passing through a western town scene complete with cute building facades. It was so relaxing that my husband fell asleep on his inner tube!

Next we moved on to the water slide which was my absolute favorite part of our visit. I must have went down the slide at least a dozen times, feeling carefree and giddy each time. Kids and kids-at-heart are gonna love the slide!
We enjoyed a delicious BBQ lunch in the Hole-in-the-Wall, a restaurant adjacent to the water park. The food was great, the service was attentive and it was nice to get out of the sun and cool off for a bit. There was also a bar in the water park where you could order food and drinks (my husband and I each indulged in a frozen cocktail – yum) and servers will even take your orders and deliver your food to your lounge chair so you don’t miss a single moment of soaking up the sun.
The pools are crystal clear and pristine and the gorgeous giant waterfalls kept the water wonderfully cool and refreshing. It was fun to sit on the benches behind the waterfalls and relax.

During the summer the resort offers some amazing rates starting at $109 a night and includes access to the water park and summer activities. These amazing rates run through September 8, 2014 so book your stay now! If you’re local to the area this is a amazing deal considering you can spend well over $100 for a family to visit one of the local water parks and this includes a luxurious hotel room!
During the summer River Ranch also offers fun pool side activities and games and dive-in movies on Friday nights! So fun!
