In Dining Out

ImageJax and I had dinner with her Uncle Tommy tonight. We met up at a little hole in the wall Mexican joint famous for it’s tortas, or Mexican sandwiches. And when I say “famous” I mean it – Los Reyes de la Torta has been featured on food shows such as the Travel Channel’s Man Vs. Food.

These tortas are DELICIOUS, an entire meal tucked into a crusty, chewy roll. I had The Mexicana, filled with carne asada, jalapenos, pico de gallo, grilled onions, avocado and refried beans. The meat was succulent and tender, the grilled onions added a charred sweetness, the avocados gave a smooth creaminess and the beans acted as a condiment to hold it all on the bun. The sandwiches come with a garden of vegetables on the side that you can pile on the sandwich or eat as a fresh accompaniment. OMGoodness, the goodness!

Jax enjoyed a pile of rice and the cucumbers that came with my torta. I had no idea that this girl liked cukes so much.

While my little brother and I ate we got to discussing all the local Phoenix area restaurants that have been featured on shows like Man Vs. Food and my favorite, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I’ve always wanted to take a road trip hitting up some of the places these shows feature. Why not start right here at home?

Every week Tommy and I are going to try and hit up one of these places and I’ll report back. YUM! Can’t wait to continue on the mission. Image

Oh! Love the idea! Let me know if you ever need a stand in for Tommy. Diners Drive Ins and Dives had St Francis on a couple weeks ago and kids always eat free there. Food looks awesome too!

Can’t wait to try St. Francis. And I’ll definitely ring you should my brother bail! You’re my fellow foodie!
