In Dining Out, Me Time

Yes, it’s true, a white sand beach exists in the Arizona desert. Powder soft and glistening beneath your toes, this beach anchors a pristine pool of crystalline water. This paradise can be found at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Sunset Beach, the latest addition to the world-renowned luxury resort opened last May and features 830 tons of sparkling white sand, surrounded by posh cabanas. In addition, 102 spacious guest rooms were added around the pool bringing the beach to your doorstep!

I had the extreme privilege of enjoying one of these palatial rooms and relaxing at the pool last week and let me tell you, it was heaven on earth. From check-in to check-out, and every delightful moment in between, my entire experience was perfection. The Sunset Beach addition is a little farther away on the property but friendly bell-hops in golf carts are always on stand-by to give you a ride to your room, or you can take a stroll through the lush and beautiful grounds, if you prefer. I opted for a lift and Tito, the bell-hop, was kind and knowledgable, letting me know on the short drive how great the Sunset Beach rooms were.

The spaciousness and beauty of the room took my breath away. A gorgeous tiled pattern on the floor gave me a glimpse of the relaxed elegance I would find as I entered further. A well-lit and generously stocked bar area is in the small hallway, complete with water bottles, glasses, coffee maker, cups, etc. Tito helped me get situated, adjusting the thermostat and explaining how the shutters on the windows opened. Then he was off, leaving to to bask in luxury.

The sliding glass doors opened to a large balcony overlooking that marvelous sandy beach.  I was excited and yet felt a twinge of sadness that this room was mine for just one night! I had to make the best of it.

My stay at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess was part of the Los Azulejos Tequila launch festivities (more about that in a future blog post) so I checked in a couple hours before party time so I could relax a bit before getting ready. Good call on my part. A quick nap in that plush king bed proved just what I needed. I will admit, I’m a bit of a mattress snob, totally spoiled by my mattress at home. But this bed was equally comfortable with quality bedding and linens making for an irresistible cocoon and sound sleep. I was so relaxed in that bed I was snoozing almost immediately. Luckily I set an alarm so I could wake up with time to get ready for the party.

shower

The shower was amazing, perfect water pressure and a hand-held, massaging shower head. I could have spent hours in that steamy, relaxing aromatherapy shower. The resort stocks the bathroom with Le Labo Rose 31 toiletries making for a wonderfully fragrant experience. I love this high-end line of products and fine fragrances and this small detail made my stay that much more special. I left pretty fancy getting all gussied up in that posh bathroom, wearing the plush robe as I preened.

My husband joined me later in the evening and I could not wait for him to see the room we had been set up in. As I expected he was mighty impressed with the beauty of the resort and room and hospitality. Turn down service got the room all cozied up for us and left chocolates on our pillows, always a charming touch.

After a great night’s sleep, the pool beckoned me down in the morning. I had to bid adieu to my sweetie so he could head to work but my plans were to take full advantage of the sandy beach and unseasonably warm Scottsdale autumn weather. The sand beneath my bare feet took me back to my Hawaiian vacation, it was so soft and warm. The pool was refreshing and cool. Attendants bustled about offering water and smiles. A patio bar, outfitted with fans and misters is close by, allowing guess to order a drink and cool off. Tall, swaying palms stand tall amounts lounge chairs further adding to the relaxing beach vibe. The Princess has nailed laid back luxury with Sunset Beach.

As I relaxed and soaked up the sun I wished my little girl had joined me. She stayed overnight with grandma so I could have some much-needed adult time with my husband and friends, but I know she would have loved playing  in the sand and splashing around in the water. My husband and I have already planned to return with her during the Christmas at The Princess festivities for another weekend staycation.

The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is a Valley landmark destination for locals and visitors alike. The property boasts some of the best restaurants in town and the Well & Being Spa offers a luxurious retreat for those seeking some therapeutic relaxation. All guests of The Princess are treated like royalty making it an ideal local for travelers, the perfect spot for a girl’s getaway or GNO or a family weekend stay over.
